If you’ve ever had a first date, you probably have strong memories of the anticipation, nervousness, and the unknown. Sometimes all of that energy carries you through the experience in a really positive way. Other times, well, it just doesn’t.
It also seems as though no matter how many first dates you have, you can’t really get good at them. You can’t control how the other person is going to act, so there are just a lot of unknowns. We’re going to give you some tips that are good for no matter what kind of first date you’re on.
First, it’s important to be yourself, but not like your ‘all-by-myself’, ‘walking around in my undies’ self. Keep your mom’s manner lessons in mind—don’t chew with your mouth open, no passing gas from either end if you can at all help it, don’t order the most expensive thing on the menu (unless you’re paying for it!), and don’t drink too much.
The not drinking too much one is a biggy. Some people get so nervous being on a first date that they think, “I’ll have a drink to loosen up.” Six margaritas later, you’re not going to be any version of your best self and you could get yourself into a situation you’re not proud of (or even remember!) the next day. So limit yourself to two drinks, max. And sip them slowly!
